10. DIAMANTIS CALLS AT NINA'S AGAIN AND TALKS FRANKLY TO HER ABOUT THE EMOTIONAL IMPASSE BETWEEN THEM Diamantis goes hesitantly to Nina's. The landlady shows him to her room: "She won't be long". While waiting for her, Diamantis looks inquisitively at various objects on Nina's chest of drawers: jewellery, perfume and a frame without a picture. Nina walks into the room unnoticed and accuses him of going through her drawers. When she realizes that they have been untouched, he apologizes to Diamantis, who seems to be at a loss. Instantly switching mood, the girl tries to create a pleasant ambiance and begins to flirt openly with shy Diamantis, who confesses that he can't live without seeing her. (OUTSIDE NINA'S – AT NINA'S)
11. SUSPICIOUS OF DIAMANTIS'S CHANGE OF BEHAVIOUR, End of the day at a primary school (Velvendous Street, Kypseli). On her way home, Sofika looks yearningly at the candy basket of a street seller. At home, Maria is worried. The do-as-you-please-with-me office employee tries to reassure her about Diamantis's delay. Sofika comes home feeling hungry. Maria blames her husband for neglecting his daughter. He must be infatuated with another woman, surely. Waiting to knock off work, Zoumis and the others are killing time and talk about football: Olympiakos FC is the backbone of the national football team. As the employees leave the company premises, Maria tails Diamantis along dark side streets with stealthily footsteps. Nina leaves the jeweller's, turning down Loulou's offer for a night out with well-off escorts. She goes home to find Diamantis waiting for her. Keeping out of sight across the street, Maria sees Nina going into the house. Diamantis confides in Nina that he cannot help being in love with her. It's a mixed blessing: he has been going through hell recently. All he wants from the girl is to come and see her. (A PRIMARY SCHOOL – A STREET – DIAMANTIS'S HOUSE – THE COMPANY OFFICES – A JEWELLER'S – OUTSIDE NINA'S – AT NINA'S)
12. MARIA MAKES A SCENE TO EMBARRASS DIAMANTIS. SHE MAKES DEROGATORY REMARKS ABOUT HIS APPEARANCE. DIAMANTIS BECOMES OBSESSED WITH HIS APPEARANCE AND HAS NIGHTMARES Maria is trying to put Sofika to bed but the girl wants to stay up and wait for her father. To lull her to sleep, she whispers softly a tune (some lines from Chatzidakis' "Lullaby" in Lorca's "Blood Wedding": "Sleep, my baby, sleep, now that you aren't thirsty…"). When Diamantis is back home, Maria makes a scene: "She's taking you for a fool. Do you think she's fallen for you for your good looks? You moron! Have you seen yourself in the mirror lately? " Diamantis painfully recalls Maria's harsh words as he shaves: " Have you seen yourself in the mirror lately?". Mr. Zoumis is flirting with Loulou in the park at the Zappeion. Nina is sitting on a bench, waiting for her. Loulou comes along escorted by a strange elderly man. At the office, Diamantis's mind is elsewhere. He absent-mindedly spills water over the glass on his desk. When Giannis wipes it off, he can see his face in it. Diamantis has a restless night. It looks as if he has a bad dream: a surrealistic scene with his face in broken mirrors. (DIAMANTIS'S HOUSE – A STREET – THE ZAPPEION – THE COMPANY OFFICES)
13. DIAMANTIS MEETS NINA AND THROWS HIMSELF AT HER FEET IMPLORINGLY. NINA REASSURES MARIA (Scene without sound) Nina is at the seaside, sitting on a boat ashore and waiting for Diamantis. In tears, the man throws himself at her feet imploringly. (Scene without sound) When Nina comes home, there is an envelope for her on the table. "Wait for me. I'll let you know". She throws it hastily into the stove. Maria and Sofika come into the room. Diamantis's wife looks hurt and asks Nina to explain herself. (AT THE SEASIDE – AT NINA'S)
14. NINA SENDS DIAMANTIS A LETTER TELLING HIM THAT SHE GOES AWAY WITH THE MAN SHE LOVES AND DIAMANTIS DESPERATELY LOOKS FOR HER (Scene without sound) Diamantis goes to Nina's in the night. The landlady gives him a letter from the girl: "Forgive me. I left with the man I loved. Thank you for being so tender to me …I will never forget you. Nina". Despondently, Diamantis runs off along dark streets. (Scene with sound but without picture) Diamantis goes to Loulou's. He is told that she has gone dancing with one of her many partners. "Ask at the Green Moon". (Scene with sound but without picture) Diamantis goes to the "Green Moon". The music from "Laterna" can be heard again. Loulou can hardly recognize him, as he looks half the man he used to be. He buys him a beer and tells him about Nina's eventful love affair. She explains that her boyfriend had embezzled some company funds and she has gone away with him. (AT NINA'S – AT LOULOU'S – A NIGHTCLUB)
15. NINA MEETS HER BELOVED TZINOTOS IN A HOTEL AND HE CONFESSES THAT HE HAS EMBEZZLED COMPANY FUNDS FOR HER SAKE. DIAMANTIS IS EAVESDROPPING. JUST THEN, THE POLICE BURST INTO THE ROOM AND ARREST TZINOTOS. Nina meets Petros Tzinotos in a cheap hotel room. He wants to know if she has been followed. She replies that she loves him no matter what he has done. He intends to "drive a hard bargain for his freedom. He did all that because he wanted to ensure that she lived a better, more comfortable life. The passports are ready." Nina tells him that they cannot get away with it and he had better return the money and serve a term in prison. Petros breaks down and cries bitterly. In the hotel room next door Diamantis is eavesdropping through the door connecting the two rooms. Overwhelmed by jealousy at the couple hugging and sweet talking, Diamantis bursts into their room. Petros gives him a punch and runs for the stairway. Police whistles can be heard. Diamantis and Nina rush to the window and look out in time to see Petros being arrested. "You bastard! You tipped off the police!" cries the girl with rage. (THE HOTEL – A STREET)
16. EPILOGUE: DIAMANTIS VISITS NINA FOR THE LAST TIME AND EXPLAINS THAT HE DID NOT TIP OFF THE POLICE. THEY MAKE FRIENDS AND SAY GOODBYE. NINA LEAVES TOWN TO WAIT FOR TZINO TO A SERVE HIS TERM IN PRISON AND DIAMANTIS' FAMILY LIFE IS BACK TO NORMAL Nina is packing when her landlady announces that Diamantis is asking for her. Overcoming her initial hesitation, she tells her to let him in. Diamantis pleads his case: "I am not an informer. I didn't know that Tzinotos was with you. The police must have been stalking you for quite some time. Never in my life have I done anything contemptible". As he starts to leave, she stops him and admits to a strange tenderness in her heart for him and a friendship that she could never understand. He displays a spirit of understanding and replies that they are a couple of poor, unthinking children passionately in love. She reveals to him that the evening his company sent him to Petros' house, she was there, hiding away in the adjacent room. When she saw him and realized what had happened, her world came tumbling down. She is going back to her parental home and wait for Petros to pay off his debt to society. He will pay the price and be atoned. As for Diamantis: "Thank you for showing me the beauty we possess inside". On his way out, he turns around and says with awkward modesty: "It's a difficult moment as it is; let us not make in any worse". A train leaves town. It goes over a crossing closed to pedestrians and heads for the provinces. At home, Diamantis looks pensive. The door opens and his daughter Sofika comes into the room. She picks up from the wooden floor the bracelet that Nina gave him the night she attempted to commit suicide. The little girl hands it to him with a meaningful look. He hugs her. Maria calls out from the other room that dinner is served. (AT NINA'S – RAILWAY TRACKS – AT DIAMANTIS'S)

Diamantis tells him it's best to ignore them. It's a cold afternoon at the company. Mr. Zoumis (Dinos Iliopoulos) flirts with Litsa the typist. A do-as-you-please-with-me employee (the timid kind of man of small social stature who never stands up for his rights and is invariably passed over) complains that he is picked on by his colleagues, which is totally unfair for someone who has fought in the Ukraine and Asia Minor. Diamantis, apparently the only dedicated company employee, after reassuring the do-as-you-please-with-me employee, confides in a colleague that his stamp collection will be his daughter's, Sofika, dowry. As they leave the Company, the do-as-you-please-with-me employee asks Diamantis if he could walk home with him. He hasn't seen Maria for a long time.
